Roland V-Drums TD-27KV2 and VAD 5 Series Overview
If you need a versatile drum kit for recording and rehearsal, the TD-27 V-Drums series delivers. The PD-140DS digital snare pad works with the high-speed processing in the TD-27 module to bring the ultimate expression to your snare work. A three-layer mesh head is fitted to a standard 14-inch shell for natural rebound and feel. The multi-element sensor system tracks your playing across the pad, with head, rimshots, and cross-stick techniques all instantly detected in real time—without needing to change settings in the module.
With unrivaled touch sensitivity, tonal variation, and open/closed resolution, the VH-14D is simply the best electronic hi-hat available. The 14-inch top/bottom cymbal design mounts on a standard acoustic hi-hat for an authentic look and feel. Playing dynamics, stick techniques, and foot articulations are all captured with perfect detail, thanks to the high-resolution detection system and lightning-fast module processing.
The CY-18DR brings limitless tonal colors to your ride playing. From edge to bell, every articulation is detected with ultra-detailed dynamics and response. Techniques from cymbal rolls to soft bell strokes are fully translated, and you can even mute the bow and bell with a gentle finger touch.
The TD-27KV2 comes with thin-profile V-Cymbals from the V-Drums Acoustic Design series, offering more natural movement when played. And just like acoustic cymbals, you can grab the edge to choke the sound and draw out different tones depending on whether you play the bow or the edge.
A nice solid kick drum usually comes with a nice loud noise. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want, but your family or neighbors may not feel the same way. The KD-10 kick pad absorbs much of the noise thanks to its rubber cover combined with a dedicated cushion—but retains that satisfying kick drum “thud” when a beater buries into a bass drum head. And it’s compatible with all standard kick pedals, both single and double.

The updated and enhanced TD-27 module features 75 preset kits developed with top professional drummers. Explore 10 all-new kits, plus newly enhanced versions of the three most popular kits from the original version of the TD-27 module. An additional collection of new samples is also available for layering and combining with the preset kits or adding to your own custom setups.
With acoustic drums, you personalize the sound by swapping heads, adjusting the tuning, applying damping, changing out kick beaters, and more. You can do the same with the TD-27 module and its hands-on controls and intuitive editing tools. The module’s layering features have also been enhanced, making it easier to create fat, hybrid sounds. Edits are saved automatically as you go, so you can always stay focused on playing.
Some performances need specific sounds. With the TD-27 module, you can import and trigger original single-shot drum hits or introduce audio loops, sequences, and more. Going further, imported samples can be mixed and layered with internal sounds to build any kit you can imagine.
Push your drumming further by playing along with your favorite bands—including your own. Wirelessly stream songs and backing tracks through the TD-27 module from your smartphone via Bluetooth audio. You can even record your performances—with or without backing—to hear where you need to tighten things up.
In the studio, the TD-27 module’s USB audio interface makes computer music production simple, with up to 28 audio channels available through a single cable. MIDI is also supported via USB and dedicated I/O ports, allowing you to sync with other MIDI devices and trigger sounds in computer-based software.
With the TD-27 module, you can easily record your drumming at any time—with or without a backing track—without needing a computer or external recorder. It’s a great way to stay in the flow and get your ideas down quickly. You can also listen back and evaluate your playing to decide if you need to put in some more work before the gig. Or maybe export your drum recording to an SD card and share it with bandmates to incorporate your drumming into the next demo.
The TD-27 module features stereo outputs for the overall drum sound, plus two additional direct outputs for independent mixing. So, it’s no problem when you arrive at the gig or studio and the sound engineer wants the kick drum on channel one, snare on channel two, and everything else as a stereo pair. And with the stereo aux input, you can connect a monitor feed and listen along with the kit sound—including a click track—via headphones.
On some gigs, you may not have someone to help balance the front-of-house sound. So, as you take your seat on the drum throne, you’re in complete control of the sound that drives the rest of the band. With the TD-27 module’s intuitive user interface, you can quickly adjust the overall volume, individual drum levels, and effects directly from your playing position. Everyone is happy—especially the audience.
With the TD-27KV2, you’re not stuck with a static setup. When you’re ready to expand your kit, the module’s three auxiliary trigger inputs make it easy to add additional Roland pads—giving you even more creative firepower.
